| 88th Parsons Family Reunion July 24, 2010 Newport, Rhode Island |
| All aboard cousins! We set sail for our 88th Parsons' Family Reunion at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Newport, RI. We have changed tack and will now be boarding the "Majestic" from 2 Bowen's Ferry Landing in Bowens Wharf Harbor in downtown Newport, RI 02840. (On the web as www.newportcruiseco.com) This is a change from the original departure from Warren, RI. Due to our original boat being sold, alternative arrangements were formed. We set sail at 11:15 a.m. for a 2 1/2 hour harbor cruise which includes a lunch buffet. The cost will be the same–$25/person, children under 12 are free. This partially enclosed cruising boat will take us by some of New England's oldest homes and establishments. A guide will be available to narrate the many sights and little known historical facts about Newport. We will be returning to the harbor at 1:45 p.m. Directly following the cruise the family members can walk to the Seamen's Church Institute (on web as www.seamensnewport.org) for our family meeting in the library room. Unfortunately, the institute is not handicap accessible and requires climbing 20 stairs to the second floor. Light refreshment will be available. We are scheduled for a one hour meeting to conclude by 3:30 p.m at the latest. Others that don't wish to attend the meeting can browse through Newport's many quaint shops, also within walking distance. This arrangement is ideal so that unnecessary travel by car is avoided. Please allow an extra 1/2 hour to 3/4hour to travel to Newport. This is a very busy, yet lovely area and we will not be alone in our desire to gather near the ocean. I am working on securing parking passes at a municipal area lot within walking distance of our departure area. Parking can be a challenge in Newport and anyone who needs handicap parking, I trust we will be able to accommodate. Please wear comfortable shoes and a big smile; this should be a wonderful day. OFFICER’S AND DIRECTORS MEETING The O&D meeting will be held at The Backroad Grille, 549 Metacom Ave. in Bristol, R.I. Menu choices will be Pork Chops, Strip Steak, Baked Scrod, Sea Scallops (grilled, fried or baked), and Chicken Parmesan. The meal includes salad, vegetables and a choice of starch. The price will be about $23.50 not including dessert. I don’t believe it includes a gratuity either. We will meet at the usual time of 6:00 p.m. Please be prepared to pay Kim Graham with cash or a check to make the process much easier.
